Stress urinary incontinence and the adjustable sling (Ajust®)

Stress urinary incontinence affects approximately 15-35% of women.

Stress urinary incontinence is the leakage of urine with coughing, sneezing, laughing and exercise

Surgery is one of the options available for improvement and over the years numerous different ones have been around and undergone countless changes.

Insertion of the sling,
one small incision in the vagina

In the search for minimally invasive surgeries and possible repair under local anesthesia, mini slings / mini transobturator tapes have been developed. One small incision in the vagina is made through which the sling gets inserted, none on the abdomen or in the groin.

Not only is the sling "mini" and seems to be as effective as the longer ones, it is adjustable at the time of insertion.

Under local anesthesia a patient can be asked to cough with a full bladder and the sling can be adjusted to where there is no leakage.

Under anesthesia, the bladder can be filled, pressure exerted on the bladder and adjustment can be made to where there is no leakage. This should theoretically diminish the chance of a sling being too tight and cause retention of urination or too lose and not providing the desired dryness.

Limitations after surgery are no intercourse till the stitch has dissolved, but otherwise regular activities can be performed rather quickly. Dr. Sprock is almost exclusively using this sling for the surgical repair of stress incontinence and is one of the most experienced adjustable sling surgeons in the south-eastern United States.

The small tubular mesh will be cut after the adjustment to the larger sling mesh/tape has been made

Through one small incision in your vagina, Dr. Sprock can cure your urine leakage with coughing, sneezing, exercising and yes, then you can laugh, without wetting your pants.
